Gifted Program Update!

Updates and Changes for the 2018/2019 School Year:

  • Jenn Deans, Zoe Branigan-Pipe, and Gerry Schaefer will continue to work in the role as Special Assignment Teachers for Gifted Students.
  • Gifted Enrichment and Innovation Centers are currently at Dr. Davey School and Holbrook School.
  • The Gifted Program has increased in student population resulting in more classes and a fuller calendar.
  • There will continue to be some school support visits and this will be based on needs of the student and school.
  • The Gifted Program is structured differently this year.
    • Grade Five:
      • There are 12 Groups/classes of Grade 5 Students) (in 2017/2018 there were 7)
      • There will be one teacher for each grade five class (in the past there were two)
      • The first three sessions are consecutive days in the fall. The last three sessions are consecutive days in the winter or spring.
      • Some grade five classes will not begin until December.
    •  Grade Six:
      • Students are grouped into 7 groups/classes (in 2017/2018 there were 6)
      • The first three sessions are three consecutive days, and the last three sessions are three consecutive days later in the year.
      • Due to high number of students in the program, some grade six classes will not begin until January/February.
    • Grade Seven:
      • Students are grouped into 7 groups/classes (in 2017/2018 there were 6)
      • The first three sessions are consecutive days, and the last three sessions are consecutive days later in the year.
      • Due to high number of students, some grade seven classes will not begin until January/February.
    • Grade Eight:
      • Students are grouped into 7 groups/classes  (in 2017/2018 there were 5)
      • The first three sessions are consecutive days in September or October
      • One day of robotics at Orchard Park in December.
      • Last two sessions are consecutive days in January.
